LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – One month after a deadly building collapse in West Louisville, the incident will receive a closer look from the Metro Council Public Safety Committee.
Councilwoman Jessica Green asked the committee to investigate what led up to the July 22 collapse at Les’ Meat Market on South 28th Street in the Parkland neighborhood.
John Dozier, 71, became trapped and died.
City departments, including the Louisville Fire Department, had repeated visits to the market and filed orders to close the store.
The Department of Codes and Regulations reportedly told firefighters they were short-staffed and could not get to the property until the following Monday.
The Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
