3 Louisville pools to open this week

Parks and Recreation said the Algonquin, Fairdale and Sun Valley pools will open beginning July 7.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Parks and Recreation announced it will reopen three pools this week.

The Algonquin, Fairdale and Sun Valley pools will open beginning Tuesday, July 7. Each pool will be open two days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All three pools will be closed on Mondays for maintenance.

Parks and Rec said Fairdale’s pool will open for the season Tuesday, Sun Valley will open Wednesday and Algonquin opens Thursday. The Norton Pool in Camp Taylor Memorial Park will not open this season due to maintenance issues.

Anyone who wants to swim must register by calling Metro Parks Aquatics at (502) 897-9949 no more than seven days in advance. All three pools will have an initial capacity of 45 swimmers for two-hour sessions. General admission is $2, though Council member Keisha Dorsey is covering entry fees for those who go to the Algonquin Pool.

The department said additional hours may be available if they can hire more lifeguards for the 2020 season, which ends September 5.

All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, including limited access to changing areas and no furniture on the pool decks to encourage social distancing.
