Two Kentucky departments are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Jeremy Meyer, 44, served as a detective in Bullitt County for nearly 10 years before joining the St. Matthews Police Department in 2012.
According to a post by the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, Meyer was vital part of advancing the forensics units of several agencies and "was one of the best Detective's ever in Bullitt and Jefferson County."
That post revealed that Meyer lost his battle with liver cancer on January 2.
The St. Matthews Police Department also shared their sorrow over the loss of Detective Meyer, asking the public to keep his family in their prayers.
"RIP 845 we have the watch from here," they said in a Facebook post.
Meyer started his career in 2004 with the Shepherdsville Police Department. He was there until he transferred to the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office in 2011.
