LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- One week after Hurricane Matthew left Haiti reeling a Kentuckiana organization is stepping up to help.

Volunteers with Supplies Over Seas loaded up a 20-foot ocean container Thursday morning with medical supplies and other equipment to send to the Caribbean nation.

The non-profit St. Boniface Haiti Foundation initially contacted Supplies Over Seas requesting the supplies to help with relief efforts.

“Hurricane Matthew of course did a lot of devastation. They needed basic supplies—gloves, dressings, bandages, hospital gowns—and SOS, because of our partnerships with our regional hospitals, was able to answer that call, pack up those supplies and send them to where they’re needed,” Melissa Mershon, President and CEO of Supplies Over Seas said.

Hurricane Matthew claimed hundreds of lives in Haiti before continuing on to the United States.
