LG&E estimates all will have power by Saturday night

LG&E estimates that restoration will last through Saturday night.

LG&E said they are making progress, but they estimate all customers should have service by 11 p.m. Saturday.

Chris Whelan, the Chief of Communications for LG&E said that at one point 125,000 LG&E customers in their 16 county service area (including Jefferson) had no power. That number is now down but continues to fluctuate.

More than 1,000 wires have reportedly come down, and crews are working 18 hour shifts around the clock to try and repair as much as they can. LG&E estimates that restoration will last through the night into tomorrow.

LG&E said they prioritize fixing power outages at public safety spaces such as hospitals or law enforcement first. Then, they address critical infrastructures such as schools and airports.

After that, crews will focus on circuits that can get the most number of customers back up and running with power all at once.

To report outages or down lines, call 502-589-1444. Click here for the latest number of outages: http://stormcenter.lge-ku.com/m.html.

Duke Energy said the peak amount of outages was 51,000 impacted in Indiana, with Clarksville being hit the hardest. To report outages in Indiana, vist duke-energy.com or call 800-343-3525.

Here’s what we know:

  • LG&E has called for help from neighboring states. Those crews were expected to arrive around 5 p.m.
  • Officials advise the public to STAY AWAY from downed lines. They are mos likely still hot and dangerous.
  • This summer, the outage soared to 175,000 customers. For comparison, the ice storm outage is big, but not as big as this summer's. Many people did not get power for days after the summer storm.
