Ky Center fire forces venue changes for local events

Events scheduled for Whitney Hall must find new locations.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Due to a recent rooftop fire, the Kentucky Center for the Arts has been closed indefinitely while repairs and safety concerns are addressed.

The closure has already led to the cancellation of the Broadway production of Waitress. Now other events scheduled to be performed in Whitney Hall are seeking new venues.

An event hosted by Kentucky to the World and Republic Bank Foundation called "Life of an Olympic Champion" has already found a new space in the Brown Theatre. The event takes place on July 10 and features guest speakers Mary T. Meagher and Kelsi Worrell Dahlia. Event tickets are still being purchased through the Kentucy Center website.

The Louisville Orchestra also announced that it was seeking a new venue for its orchestral performance of Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban, which was set to be performed in Whitney Hall on the weekend of July 7 and July 8.

They wrote in a Tweet that they were "working with KCA to determine best options for these performances." They said they will contact ticket holders individually.
