HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. — A current Oldham County, Ky. teacher is facing charges in Harrison County, Ind. after allegedly having sex with a former student.
Amy Hamilton turned herself in Monday and was released after she posted the $5,000 bond, according to the Harrison County Prosecutor.
Investigators said Hamilton first met the teen when she worked at Stuart Pepper Middle School in Meade County, Ind.
That student was 15 at the time of the alleged sexual intercourse and in high school, while Hamilton was teaching at South Oldham High School.
The probable cause affidavit states the student told police he had had sex with his former teacher at her home in Harrison County, Ind.
The court documents also said she had given him alcohol.
“The allegations set forth in the probable cause affidavit are that Miss Hamilton was reaching out outside of those bounds as a school teacher and to that, as someone providing comfort and care and with that, certainly blurred those boundaries by providing alcohol,” said Harrison County Prosecutor Otto Schalk.
The affidavit said the teenager ‘initiated the physical contact earlier in the day,’ and she ‘resisted his advances.’
It said after the consumption of ‘approximately nine beers’ by the teen and ‘multiple bottles of wine’ by Hamilton, she led him to her bedroom where the two allegedly had sex.
“When you have someone under the age of consent, that in itself makes it a crime,” said Schalk.
Hamilton would not give any comment to WHAS 11 News when a reporter knocked on her door, but the court documents said she did talk to a detective.
During the interview with police, the affidavit said she ‘denied providing [the student] with alcoholic beverages or any sexual contact between them.’
The student’s phone was searched and court documents stated there were ‘digital messages’ which ‘alluded to an intimate relationship’ between the two.
Court documents said the 15-year-old was staying the night at Hamilton’s house. Schalk would not elaborate on the student’s current living situation at this time.
Hamilton is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sexual misconduct with a minor.
