Kentucky lawmaker’s bill would require telemarketers to list true caller ID

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — A Republican state lawmaker from Louisville is taking steps that could make avoiding robocalls easier.

House Majority Whip Kevin Bratcher pre-filed a bill that would require telemarketers to list their true caller ID number or have it listed as unknown, according to WTVQ.

The bill would not apply to certain situations, including police investigations, domestic violence, or whistleblower protections.

According to the bill, a first-time penalty would cost $500, while additional offenses would be punished with a $3,000 fine.

The bill will up for discussion during the upcoming legislative session, which will convene after the first of the year.
