Kentucky executes death row inmate: November 21, 2008

Marco Allen Chapman was executed in Kentucky, 10 years ago today.

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It’s been ten years since Marco Allen Chapman made the walk from his cell at Kentucky’s Eddyville State Penitentiary and into the death chamber. His execution by lethal injection on Nov. 21, 2008 was the last performed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky before a judge issued a stay.

Chapman killed two young children, stabbed another and raped their mother in 2002. He requested to bypass all but one required appeal which sped up his execution date. Some who advocate against the death penalty have referred to his execution as “suicide by state”.

As the anniversary neared, talk of the death penalty entered conversations following the shooting deaths of two African-American shoppers at a Kroger in Jeffersontown.

On Thursday on WHAS11 News at 6 and 11, Chris Williams explains what’s with the delay, where the law stands now and what the future may hold for murder suspects like, Gregory Bush, the man facing charges for the Kroger killings.
