Joe Huber's Family Farm getting back to its roots

The Huber Family is allowing the public to visit the original farmhouse.

STARLIGHT, Ind. — Family and history goes hand in hand here at Joe Huber's Family Farm and Restaurant.

The family is now allowing people to come in and share a part of history.

"So, the original farmhouse, Joe and Bonnie's house is now called Uncle Joe's Bird Nest. You can actually look that up on VRBO," Tara Huber-Mahan, director of sales and marketing, said.

It's the home her grandfather grew up in.

"It's a wonderful way to keep it in the family and keep the tradition going on," Huber-Mahan said.

Huber-Mahan says this new option for people keeps with the history of the farm.

"A lot of the original furniture and pieces are in the home. It's really beautiful," she said.

This year, the family is going back to their roots.

"So we hear these customers who come out and say oh my gosh, I remember when my grandpa or parents would bring us out here when I was little. And we'd get to out in the fields and pick our own fresh fruits and vegetables and it's just creating these wonderful memories that these families get to share," she said.

They'll be bringing back U-pick fruits. Something her grandfather started in the area.

"Which my grandfather, Joe Huber actually started in the area. We're in the process right now of planting apple trees, peach trees," Huber-Mahan said.

Cherry trees and Strawberries.

"We've been in business for so many years, so many decades and we want to just keep going. We wouldn't be here without our loyal customers," she added.

Acknowledging memories that transcend generations.

The U-pick strawberries will be up and running next year, the other fruits will take about three years.
