SELLERSBURG, Ind. — Indiana State Police confirm that one person is dead after a crash late Thursday night in southern Indiana. The crash happened at 11 p.m. on I-65S in Clark County.

According to ISP's preliminary investigation, 24-year-old Cody Whitehead of Henryville was stationary in his car on the side of the expressway in the emergency lane with hazard lights on when it was struck by a semi-truck that crossed over the fog line.

The semi pushed Whitehead's car into the guardrail on the west side of I-65. His car came to rest partially in the right-hand lane and was then struck by two other vehicles who were both unable to avoid the collision.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. No other drivers were injured.

Investigators believe that Whitehead had pulled into the emergency lane waiting for assistance after his car had run out of gas

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash. No citations or charges have been filed, but ISP's investigation is ongoing.
