Applications for Indiana absentee ballots are due today. Here's how to apply

Election officials are urging voters to vote by absentee ballot to keep crowds low at polling locations.

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. — Early voting for Indiana’s primary election begins soon and with concerns about the coronavirus pandemic, election officials are urging voters to use absentee ballots this year.

Absentee ballot applications are due by midnight on Thursday, May 21.

How to request an absentee ballot in Indiana

  • Visit indianavoters.in.gov.
  • On the main page, select “Apply Online/Get Forms” on the “Vote By Mail or Traveling Abroad” button, which should be the center option.
  • Select “Visit My Voter Portal” and you will be asked to enter your name, birthday and the county in which you are currently registered to vote.
  • Once you enter the portal, you should have an option called “Absentee Voting.” Select that, then click “Vote By Mail.”
  • Make sure your personal information is correct and click “Yes.”
  • You will then be asked about which party you want a ballot for. Submit your answer and your application is complete.

If you do want to vote in person, election officials said they will have supplies to keep voters safe at polling locations. You can find your polling location here.
