JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Flags are at half-staff in front of Jeffersonville High School as the country mourns the 17 lives lost in a school shooting in Parkland, Flordia. Now, Jeffersonville is just one of the many schools dealing with fear.

“It causes a tremendous amount of damage and the damage being kids missed school today,” said Keith Henderson, Floyd County Prosecutor.

Two students have been arrested and charged with intimidation over the past three days. The latest on Twitter. The threat names Greater Clark County and New Albany Floyd County Schools saying the districts should “be ready,” saying it's "not a threat" but "a promise" followed by a bomb emoji.

“Any threat that is made to the public, excuse me, to the school corporation or toward a school employee will be taken seriously and will be investigated thoroughly,” Henderson said.

A spokesperson tells us 700 students did not show up at Jeffersonville High School, that's about 35 percent of the school body.

“When there is a threat made on social media and there's no present threat in the building, for there to be a reaction such as they're not going to send their kids to school I think is unfortunate for the child,” Henderson said.

Henderson says it's time for parents to step in and use this as a teaching moment.

“We have to teach responsibility and that there will be consequences for some of those statements that are made because we are in a heightened world, a heightened sense of security,” Henderson said.
