LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo asked guests to vote for one of three names for the new male bongo calf and the winner was the name Groot.
The other two choices were Drax or Rocket. The zoo said a “Guardians of the Galaxy” theme emerged out of the 2,000 names that were submitted.
Those who visited the zoo from June 14 -23 dropped coins and bills into the zoo’s naming kiosk to indicate their favorite name and Groot was the favorite.
All of the proceeds will go to the zoo’s effort to provide excellent care for animals and important conservation and education programs.
