Former UofL players to help pay for Jared Lorenzen's funeral

The Cards wanted to show their support for the former UK quarterback who passed away July 3.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Three former University of Louisville football players are honoring their fallen rival, days after he passed away.

Jamon Brown, Deion Branch and Chris Redman are helping pay for the funeral for former University of Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen. All three men also played in the NFL with Lorenzen.

Brown is donating $5,000 to the cause and talked about his decision to do so.

“We wanted to be an example of how, no matter if you played for the blue or the red – how important it is for us to come together and support one another both in and out of sports,” he said.

A celebration of life for Lorenzen will be held on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Saint Pius X Church in Edgewood, Kentucky. 

A burial service will follow. 

Lorenzen died July 3 after being hospitalized for an infection, kidney and heart issues.

He was 38-years-old.
