Louisville attorney pleads not guilty to assault charge after fight with another attorney at Hall of Justice

One attorney attacked the other with a Lysol can on the morning of July 17

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville attorney charged with assaulting another attorney made his first court appearance Monday.

Lindsey Scott was charged with assault on Wednesday, July 17 after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reported a physical altercation at the Hall of Justice.

Lieutenant Colonel Carl Yates, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, said shortly after 8 a.m. attorney James “J.R.” Moore was working on a case in the third-floor attorney workroom near courtroom 302. Attorney Lindsey Scott entered the workroom and, for reasons unknown at this time, a fight between the two men developed and Scott reportedly attacked Moore with a Lysol can.

On Monday, before a judge, Scott's attorney entered a not guilty plea.

The judge ordered Scott to have no contact with Moore, and keep a 50 foot distance from him at all times. The two attorneys often work in the Hall fo Justice together at the same time.

“I saw deputy sheriffs and emergency medical technicians and yellow crime scene tape and I said, 'Gee, something happened,'” said attorney Robert Schaad.

Schaad did not see the incident but was shocked when he learned who was involved.

“I would have no reason to doubt the integrity or stability of either one of them,” he said.

Both were covered in blood when EMS arrived and both were treated at the scene.

Lt. Col. Yates said around the same time Moore was transported to Jewish Hospital Scott began complaining of chest pains and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was arrested and charged with assault.

“I'm perplexed, because from what I know of both of these gentlemen, they are gentlemen and I can't think of any reason why there would be any reason for anything rude, much less physical to happen between them,” Schaad said.

Scott's next court appearance is set for August 13. Although, the judge said Scott is allowed to continue practicing law in the meantime.
