East End Bridge momentum brings more development to Jeffersonville

The surgical center plans to open this fall, and the Planet Fitness should be done by Spring 2020.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — The good news continues for Jeffersonville when it comes to growth. The city announced more plans for development near the East End Bridge Tuesday morning, June 18.

This latest development will call the Jeffersonville Commons Shopping Center home just off East 10th Street. It includes a $4 million medical center and a more than $5 million Planet Fitness. When it's all said and done, the River Ridge Surgical Suites will be a $60 million investment. The gym plans to hire around 40 employees.

Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore called this a huge day for the city and all who call it home.

“Everything a family could look for, everything a business could look for is right here in Jeffersonville,” Moore said. "It's like a chess game, and I feel like we're three steps ahead. I don't mean to sound cocky, but we're lucky things are falling our way, and we're going to make sure it continues.”

It's a full-circle moment that is decades in the making.

"I was a little kid when they were talking about building the East End Bridge. For years and years and years, it was a constant fight if we would get it done. We got it done,” Moore said.

Fast forward to 2019, and that Lewis and Clark Bridge connection continues to create progress.

"We think it's a great community, and it's been neglected for a lot of years. It's time that Jeffersonville gets everything it deserves,” Nicklies Development President David Nicklies said.

"The developers saw what we were doing. They bought all of the land up, and now they're bringing in new tenants,” Moore said.

The surgical center plans to open this fall, and the Planet Fitness should be done by Spring 2020. This will be the gym's 18th location in Kentuckiana.
