'Complete streets' focus on pedestrian safety

Patricia Tennen with Kentucky Youth Advocates said 25 percent of all roadway deaths are people hit while walking

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Planning Commission is working to make sure our city's roads are designed for all users and not just cars. It's an effort to strengthen the complete street city ordinance that has been in place for 11 years.

Patricia Tennen with Kentucky Youth Advocates said 25 percent of all roadway deaths are people hit while walking and improving road structures can help prevent those deaths.

An amended ordinance for complete streets is currently in the planning stages. It will go before metro council for a vote when it's complete.
