City's first 'cat cafe' in Highlands plans summer opening

Purrfect Day Café is a cross between a coffee shop and an adoption center which partners with the Kentucky Humane Society.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The “Keep Louisville Weird” mantra continues to grow as a local business prepares to open the city’s first ever cat café.

Purrfect Day Café is a cross between a coffee shop and an adoption center which partners with the Kentucky Humane Society.

The concept started in Taiwan with the idea that customers can enjoy a hot beverage and get-in some quality cat time.

There are more than 80 cat cafés across the country.

Whether it’s date night or just looking for some relaxation, the café promises feline companionship.

Owner Chuck Patton said the best part of it all is that all of the cats are adoptable.

"This is their residence so they're very relaxed, they’re always having fun you're coming into their spot so their more likely to come and check you out and make sure things are right what’s important about that if you say you want to adopt one of these then you're probably finding a really good fit because you really got to know the cat."

Patton says the casual hang out spot will serve beer, wine, coffee and snacks.

He plans to open the cafe by June 2018 along Bardstown Road.
