Child expected to be okay after shooting self in So. Louisville

Police responded to a report of a shooting involving a child at the corner of South 4th Street and West Hill Street in Old Louisville shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A 3-year-old boy is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he accidentally shot himself Sunday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.


LMPD said the child accidentally shot himself before 11 a.m. inside an apartment in the 1500 block of Oleanda Avenue. The child's father was rushing to take his son to the hospital when he was involved in an accident at the intersection of South 4th Street and West Hill Street.


According to LMPD, officers responded to the crash, where they found the father and his son. Emergency officials shut down the intersection and took the child to Norton Children's Hospital.


Officials said the child was conscious and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
