LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Metro Police responded to a call shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday about a body found on a sidewalk in the 7400 block of New La Grange Road.

Police believe the victim, a white female in her 30s, died as a result of foul play. LMPD’s homicide unit is investigating.

Neighbors said the only noise they really ever hear in the area comes from traffic. They said they didn’t notice anything unusual or alarming overnight, but woke up to lots of police cars and crime scene tape filling their block Saturday morning.

“I could see from my kitchen windows early this morning before it was daylight that there was all kinds of police cars down there. So, we took our walk down to the corner, and there were three police cars blocking traffic,” neighbor Jean Morehead said. “I got the one cop’s attention, and I said what’s going on because I didn’t see any accidents or anyone hurt or anything, and they told me it was an investigation.”

Morehead said another neighbor told her police found a woman dead on the sidewalk. She said she’s lived in the area for 30 years and can’t believe this happened.

“I just can’t imagine things like that happening in this area of town, not that it should happen any place, but the fact is that this is really a quiet area,” Morehead said. “I was astonished to find out that someone got killed in this part of town.”

It's not clear yet who found the victim first and then called police. Hours after the investigation started, LMPD's crime scene unit and detectives could still be seen going door to door talking to neighbors Saturday afternoon. Police haven't named any suspects, but went in and out of one house on the block for much of the afternoon. The neighbor who lives next door to that house said he thinks the victim might be a woman who lives there with two other people, but police have not confirmed that information.

“I don’t know if there was a domestic problem, maybe there was a scuffle or somebody got hurt and then she probably tried to run, but that’s just my speculation. I don’t know,” neighbor Steve Robertaccio said. “They’re pretty quiet. I’ve never had any problems out of any of them, so they’re very quiet people. It’s a little weird for sure because nothing like this ever happens around here.”

The coroner's report will likely take several days to come out, but many neighbors said their thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and her family.
