Abandoned factory on 30th and Muhammad Ali damaged after fire

The Louisville Fire Department said it took 70 firefighters to bring the fire over control after it broke out early Friday morning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An abandoned warehouse that was in the process of being demolished caught on fire early Friday morning, according to the Louisville Fire Department. No one was injured, but it took dozens of firefighters to control the fire.

Louisville Fire said crews responded to reports of a structure fire at 30th St. and Muhammad Ali Blvd. a little before 5 a.m. When they arrived, they found heavy fire at a five-story vacant commercial building.

Additional crews were sent to the scene to help because of several challenges including the integrity of the building and how big the fire was. More than 70 firefighters worked together to bring the fire under control.

Smoke from the fire could be seen across the Ohio River in Jeffersonville.

Louisville Fire said no one was injured during the incident and arson investigators will work to determine the cause. Work to demolish the building had begun earlier in June, but it's unclear if that demolition work had anything to do with the fire.

Major Bobby Cooper with the Louisville Fire Department released the following video showing crews fighting the fire before the sun was up.

The factory is across the street from the planned Louisville Urban League Sports and Learning Complex. There are no reports of fire or smoke damage to any other buildings in the area.
