LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- A 71-year-old man died after he fell 25 feet into a creek while fishing at the Parklands on Monday.
On July 8, around 5:30 p.m., the Jefferson County Fire crews in Fern Creek responded to a report that a man had fallen 5 feet while fishing.
Crews arrived to find the man, who was identified as 71-year-old Paul Stephen “Steve” Wise, had fallen down 25 feet, according to Jordan Yuodis with Jefferson County fire.
A technical rescue operation was started and utilized a stokes basket to bring the man up to ground level.
Wise did suffer injuries from the fall. He was taken to the hospital by Buechel Fire-EMS, Yuodis said.
Wise was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 9:42 p.m. on Monday. His cause of death is due to multiple blunt force injuries, the Jefferson County Coroner said.
