LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Officials say one person is dead after a car crash turned fiery on I-64 West, not too far from the Sherman Minton Bridge.

According to police, a vehicle was broken down in the far-left lane of I-64 West near the 1.2 mile-marker just before I-264.

The disabled vehicle wasn’t visible when police say it was rear ended by another vehicle headed west on I-64.

That vehicle then burst into flames and the driver, who was the sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the other vehicle was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

LMPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating.

Lanes were closed for a few hours while the scene was cleared. I-64 reopened just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
