FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear issued an order allowing circuit court clerks to renew driver's licenses remotely through Sept. 30. The governor also ended the 90-day expiration date extension on July 7.

Beshear originally closed all in-person government services March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however services have resumed with social distancing.

If a person's license expired between March 18 and July 9, they are still given 90 days from the date of expiration to renew their credentials. Driver's licenses or permits that expire on or after July 7 must be renewed to be considered valid.

Those needing to renew should still use the remote process provided by their county's circuit court clerk. The address for all 120 clerks can be found here. Payments can be made through the mail or via drop box at the entrance at one of the clerk's locations.

To get a license or permit for the first time, people must go inside the clerk's location. People are encouraged to make an appointment. The Jefferson County Clerk's Office does require masks.
