LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Amazon is investing more than $1 billion to get consumers their packages faster in the region.

CEO Jeff Bezos himself manned the front loader to break ground Tuesday on a new air hub at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport.

Amazon expects to create more than 2,000 jobs at its new facility.

Bezos says the site will be crucial for Amazon’s overall business.

“This hub is going to let us get packages to customers faster and that’s a big deal. We’re going to move Prime from two day to one day and this hub is a big part of that. Super excited about that,” he said.

The new air hub is slated to open in 2021.
