HARDIN CO., Ky. (WHAS11) – The Elizabethtown Police Department is warning residents about a mortgage scam a resident found in their mailbox recently.

The police department’s Facebook post says the 1-800 number on the mailer is fake and the scammers will ask for your information to “clear up” any confusion on a mortgage in your name.

EPD advises the scammers may even act like someone has stolen your identity and proceed to try and steal your identity to resolve the case.
