CHARLESTOWN, Ind. — One local teacher is sending his students off in some serious style this year.

Nate Hayden, the choral director at Charlestown Middle and High School, started dressing up in hilarious costumes to count down the last two weeks of the year about six years ago.

The tradition quickly became a student favorite, and Hayden has continued to raise the stakes ever year.

When Hayden spoke with WHAS11 last year, he said the costumes were a bittersweet way to say goodbye to students that had been a part of his life for years.

"I lose kids that I've seen for seven years. So, it's like a bad breakup almost," Hayden said. "I get emotional. I cry. It's horrible. Luckily, I don't wear makeup or it just smears."

This year's countdown did not disappoint, with Hayden dressing up as a giant hippo ballerina, Elvis, a Monsters Inc. monster and a '70s disco superstar.
