LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Family Health Centers Inc. in Louisville has received $325,000 in funding to assist in improving and expanding substance abuse treatment services at its facilities.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell contacted the Department of Health and Human Services in support of awarding the Kentucky facility with the federal grant.

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, says the funding will help Family Health Centers expand its services and hire more staff to help treat people suffering from substance abuse.

He says the community health center provides care to those who need it most.

Family Health Centers CEO Bill Wagner says the grant funding will allow the organization to provide treatment for opioid addiction.

According to its website, Family Health Centers provides services to more than 37,000 patients annually at seven sites throughout Metro Louisville.
