What JCPS students need to know before NTI tomorrow

The district says teachers will be reaching out to students to explain the expectations while remote learning.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools will launch its non-traditional instruction plan for students Tuesday, April 7.

NTI will allow students to learn through at least May 1 while in-person classes are canceled. All NTI days will count as regular school days and will not be made up at the end of the academic year.

Students are required to check in every day with their teachers, who will determine the best way to communicate plans to them. Work is required and will be graded like any normal assignments

The district said teachers will be reaching out to students to explain the expectations while remote learning. If a student does not hear from them, JCPS said to contact the school or teacher.

Work can be completed either online or through hard copy, and a limited number of Chromebooks were given to students who do not have computer access. If you have any trouble with your Chromebook, you can contact IT here.

Hard copies of lesson plans in multiple languages can be found at emergency food sites on April 13.

Food sites are open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Children can receive up to four meals (two breakfasts and two lunches) on Mondays and Wednesdays, and receive one breakfast and one lunch on Fridays.

For families that need assistance getting internet access, Spectrum is offering free Wi-Fi for 60 days and other providers are offering discounted rates.

JCPS also said the district will supply 6,000 Wi-Fi hotspots to ECE families. If you are one of those families, you’ll be receiving instructions on how to request one.

Students can access their lessons, activities and teachers at the JCPS NTI homepage. There is also an FAQ and step-by-step guide for students and their parents.

The current end date for the school year is June 10. If the Board of Education votes to forgive four days and have school on two days where classes were not initially scheduled, the last day of school would move to Wednesday, June 3.
