TARC buses celebrate JCPS seniors

Every JCPS high school senior's name will appear on a TARC bus for the next four weeks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the next four week, TARC buses will celebrate Jefferson County High School seniors with banners.

Each of the 21 JCPS high schools will appear on the side of a bus with all seniors' names listed. In total, there are somewhere between 4,000-5,000 names on all buses.

"We want to create that excitement when someone sees, 'Oh! That's my school' or 'That's my name,'" spokesperson Renee Murphy said. "And to really let our seniors know that we are thinking about them and encouraging them during these difficult circumstances."

High schools have also lit up their football stadiums to highlight seniors, and the district is producing videos for each school to air during local newscasts.

JCPS will host virtual graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020, livestreaming 25 ceremonies that feature speeches from students and principals on YouTube.

“I still hope to have in-person graduation ceremonies and celebrations for every 2020 graduate this fall,” Pollio said. “But just in case we can’t, I want our seniors to know that we did our best to make the end of their high school career as special as possible.”

The last day for JCPS students is May 27.
