LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Many came home from work to see police lights on their street on a cold rainy night in the California neighborhood.

“Soon as I entered the door I heard ‘bam, bam, bam’ and I just thought it was fireworks but I said, 'Ugh, it's raining thought so who's putting firecrackers out,'” said Cedric Hamilton, neighbor.

Police say six teens between the ages of 13 and 17 years old were shot near 17th and Prentice streets right around the corner from Wheatley Elementary School.

“It's horrific, it really is. I mean, six whole kids. Somebody was just like--I don't know--there weren't any targets. Somebody was just shooting,” a neighbor said who chose to conceal her identity.

Four of them suffered minor injuries, including graze wounds. The other two have serious injuries.

“I'm trying to still process it myself,” Hamilton said.

Another neighbor, who chose to conceal her identity, says she's now concerned for her own kids.

“I got a teenage daughter so it's scary,” she said.

Halloween decorations are up but it's the real life scene in this neighborhood that is much scarier for people who call this area home.
