JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A man charged with murder and armed robbery in the October slaying of a businessman in southern Indiana has entered a plea agreement in the case.
Antonio J. McRae, 35, filed the agreement to plead guilty June 6. His attorney, Dave Mosley, confirmed details of the agreement, which could bring 45-65 years in prison and needs approval from a judge.
McRae was arrested in December after community tips identified him as the suspect in 49-year-old Praful Patel's fatal shooting. Patel was killed while working at the Stop N Go convenience store he owned with his wife.
McRae apologized on camera in January 2019, saying it was all an accident. He told reporters he had planned to rob Patel but not to kill him, and that he intended to plead guilty.
He is scheduled for a change of plea hearing June 20 at 9:30 a.m.
