Man arrested for stabbing in Middletown neighborhood

According to MetroSafe, multiple victims were stabbed in the 500 block of Malcolm Ave. on May 7 around 11:15 p.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Kentucky — One man was arrested after stabbing two people and a dog in a Middletown neighborhood Thursday night, police said.

MetroSafe received a report of a stabbing in the 500 block of Malcolm Ave. at around 11:15 p.m. Samuel Portillo told police Jose Menjivar stabbed him and his mom after an argument over why she would not get back in a relationship with him turned violent.

Portillo said Menjivar came home drunk, angered at Vilma Portillo for not getting back with him. He then threatened to kill her and the two children they share, going into a closet to grab a knife.

Menjivar stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the stomach. Portillo, Vilma's son from a previous relationship, said he tried to intervene when Menjivar stabbed him in the back twice. Menjivar also stabbed the family dog that tried to protect his ex.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. Menjivar confirmed Portillo's story to the police. He was arrested on two counts of assault and terroristic threatening.
