Kentucky woman charged with manslaughter after 2-year-old eats fentanyl

Kentucky State Police said detectives found traces of fentanyl in the room where the child was found unresponsive.

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. — A Kentucky woman is facing serious charges in the death of a two-year-old child.

Brittany Copodonna, of Boyd County, is charged with manslaughter, wanton endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

According to Kentucky State Police, on Feb. 14, Body County 911 responded to a call of an unresponsive child at a residence on Greentree Court.

Upon arriving, EMS found a 2-year-old child who was unresponsive. The child was transported to Kings Daughters Medical Center and shortly after arriving, was pronounced dead.

Authorities say further investigation revealed the child had ingested fentanyl.

"Analysis of the evidence collected during the execution of the search warrant revealed the presence of fentanyl in the room where the child was found unresponsive," KSP said in a March 23 press release.

Police say the case remains under investigation.
