LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A shooting at a local park left one teenager dead and police looking to question multiple suspects who may have been involved.
Investigators said the victim was shot while he was sitting inside of his car, which was parked at the Riverview Park boat ramp in Pleasure Ridge Park.
At this time police haven't made any arrests, but there is surveillance video of the scene which is helping them with their investigation.
Now, they said they need the public’s help identifying the suspects and figuring out why the victim was there in the first place.
This Memorial Day, Sgt. Donny Burbrink of the LMPD Homicide Unit said there are too many mourning families in his city.
“Obviously, there’s a grieving family out there,” Sgt. Burbrinksaid. “Unfortunately, this year there have been about 47 grieving families. It’s been a rough year. Obviously, our hearts go out to our of our victims’ families, especially on a day like Memorial Day.”
You would never know it now by looking at the crowds today, but less than 24 hours ago Riverview Park became Louisville's latest murder scene.
“I came up and I saw the tape, and I didn’t know anything about the tape,” Taleesa Smithsaid.
The tape Taleesa Smith is referencing is all that’s left of the scene today, where she found the victim’s brother openly grieving.
“The guy’s brother was down there on the ground crying,” said Smith. “My mom was kind of like, “Let me go and pray for him and say a couple of words to him.’"
Now, LMPD needs your help tracking down the people they believe are responsible.
Investigators released pictures of the suspects who they believe shot the victim inside his car.
A white female, and an African-American male then got out of the victim’s car, got into a black sedan and drove away.
“We don’t have anything to show that it’s a certain group causing all of the violence in the city of Louisville,” said Burbrink. “What you’re looking at are mostly isolated incidents.”
Isolated or not, the incident has left families like the Smith's on edge.
“You just never know now a days,” said Smith. “You can be anywhere with your kids, and something freakish happen. It’s just sad that you can’t even go anywhere and have fun.”
Again, LMPD is asking for your help to identify the suspects. If you believe you recognize the people shown in those pictures you are being asked to call 574-LMPD.
