Volunteers needed for Ohio River Sweep

The annual six-state initiative will host a clean-up of the riverbanks along the Ohio River on Saturday, June 15.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — You have a chance to give back to Louisville this weekend. Volunteers are needed for a team clean-up along the Ohio River.

MSD, the Louisville Water Company, and LG&E will host the annual effort to clear the Ohio riverbank of trash on Saturday, June 15. The annual six-state initiative stretches all the way to Pittsburgh.

Organizers said an average of 40 tons of trash is cleared each year in Jefferson County alone. There are a total of six cleanup sites along the Ohio this year.

Carrie Gaulbert Cox Park - 3730 River Road
Eva Bandman Park - 1701 River Road
Karen Lynch Park/Beargrass Flood Pumping Station - 1731 Brownsboro
Shawnee Park - W Market Street between Northwestern Parkway and Fontaine Landing Court
Riverview Park - 8202 Greenwood Road (Greenwood and Cane Run Road)

If you'd like to volunteer, you can visit the ORSANCO website, where you can contact organizers and fill out a waiver form. The clean-up event runs from 9 a.m. until noon.
