LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Smoketown neighbors let their voices be heard as they discussed a sewer basin planned by the Metropolitan Sewer District.
They told the MSD board they want to be treated as everyone else, meaning they want an underground facility with a park above it.
Construction is already underway on the Logan Street basin with the current design calling for a large brick, windowless building amidst a neighborhood mixed with both residential homes and industrial buildings.
Other plans for basins across the city are calling for underground structures buried under a park.
Smoketown residents compared the design of the sewage system to that of a prison and are asking for some equality.
No final decision has been made yet however, the MSD board did vote to explore other options as they move forward with the project that has to be completed by the end of 2017 to stay on a court-approved timeline.
