LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – As cold weather hovers over Kentuckiana, various school resource centers throughout Jefferson County Public Schools are teaming up to offer items to families in need during the winter months.

A free yard sale was held complete with donated clothing and other items at Wheatley Elementary Saturday morning.

“When you have food in your belly, when you have the clothes that you need, when you have a coat when you’re warm – you’re able to focus more on schoolwork,” Atkinson Elementary’s Family Resource Center Coordinator Lisa Hirsch said.

Part of the yard sale also focused on Project Warm, an initiative that provided demonstrations and supplies to families to help them winterize their homes to conserve energy and money.
