Dirt Bowl wraps up tournament in Shawnee Park

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The annual Dirt Bowl Tournament has wrapped up another year in Shawnee Park.

The goal of the tournament is to give adults and young people something positive to do throughout the summer.

The nostalgic basketball tournament attracted families from across the city.

Organizers say the most important part is the lessons kids learn on the basketball court extend far beyond the game.

“I know it’s changing lives – even when I’m blowing the whistle even when it’s a wrong call. I’m teaching them how to talk to someone who’s done something wrong to you – conflict resolution, that’s something we don’t have in urban communities,” Neal Robertson said.

This year marked the first year of a high school division.

The East End team defeated Team Hustle in the Pro Division with a final score of 65-42.

In the high school division, Who's Next defeated Valley 52-50 and St. Stephen defeated Who's Next 37-29 in the 12 and under division.
