TopGolf project goes to full Louisville Metro Council for vote

The planning, zoning, and annexation committee made the decision Tuesday afternoon to move the project forward to the rest of the council.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- The fight over a proposed Top Golf is headed to the full Louisville Metro Council.

The planning, zoning, and annexation committee made the decision Tuesday afternoon to move it forward.

It came before that committee after the city's planning commission voted yes on the project at the old Sears location at Oxmoor Center.

Many who live in neighborhoods near the mall were opposed to the project because of concerns about lighting, traffic, and noise.

Councilwoman Marilyn Parker represents that area. She was the only vote against the project moving forward.

“When I first looked at TopGolf I looked at it and I thought, 'That really looks cool and that really looks like a fun venue.' But then when you really get down to the heart of the matter, the meat of the matter, you realize there's two sides to every story,’ Parker said.

TopGolf officials maintain the impact on neighbors will be minimal.

If the full council approves the project, the company said it takes about 18 months from the time it gets the green light to when it opens for business.
