Louisville teen helping people find their happiness as owner of self-care store

Kayla Marie is a full time eighth grader during the week, but on the weekend she is a successful businesswoman.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Fourteen-year-old Kayla Marie has taken something she’s passionate about, self-care and wellness, and is spreading it to others.

The eighth grader is the owner of Bubbly Bliss Bar, a store on Bardstown Road in the Highlands.

Kayla is wise beyond her years.

“You’d think she's 30 years old, the way she like prioritizes and manages,” Kayla’s mom, Lashonda Threets said.

All of the products in Bubbly Bliss Bar revolve around happiness, something Kayla herself needed to find during the beginning of the pandemic.

“I was feeling very worried and fearful about what might happen, and so my mom presented the idea that I should start a business so that I can focus on that and to relieve my anxiety a little bit,” Kayla said.

The business turned from an idea to a brick and mortar store that opened in December.

Kayla does it all – works the register, does inventory, researches and selects her products, and manages her website.

She’s got a team of family members supporting her. They come in on Saturdays to work in the store.

“We just made it all happen, so we said okay if you believe in it, we're gonna stand behind you,” Threets said.

Bubbly Bliss Bar is just open one day a week right now. Kayla focuses on school Monday through Friday, and on the weekend is getting a hands-on education.

“The fun thing has just been learning everything about how to manage a business,” Kayla said.

It’s a busy schedule for this 14-year-old, but Kayla’s found her happiness again – making all the work worth it.

“I love seeing all the customers faces when they come in because I feel so happy and they just love it,” Kayla said.

Valentine’s Day is coming up one week from today, and if you’re looking for a gift for a loved one, or for yourself, Bubbly Bliss Bar will be open Saturday's from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2110 Bardstown Rd. You can also visit Kayla's website
