LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A new program is looking to grow Louisville’s popular food scene while also helping to revitalize the Russell neighborhood.
The concept is called Chef Space, a kitchen incubator and the first of its kind in the city.
Located at the former Jay’s Cafeteria site, it’s a space that helps up-and-coming food businesses expand to the next level.
Business owners will have access to a commercial kitchen with professional equipment to gain legitimacy and pass the required health inspections.
Their services go beyond a state-of-the-art kitchen.
“We’re with like-minded people. We’re able to help each other. There’s a lot of mentoring here because many of us are very new to the business of starting our own business, so there’s much mentoring here. That’s just outstanding,” Mary Pat Taylor of Dippin’ Sisters said.
Chef Space started in November with 6 members and has since grown to 20.
The businesses range from soul food, desserts, sauces and meat products.
