LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas downtown as the city readies for the holiday season.

Crews added the final touches to the tree located in Holiday Plaza including the lights, ornaments and bows.

In years past, the city turned to residents to provide the 50-foot tree, this year they decided to go with an artificial one.

“We love a live Christmas tree as well as the community but it just wasn’t possible this year. There’s a lot of construction going on. We couldn’t get a live Christmas tree safely for the workers or for the plaza. So, Fourth Street Live offered their tree,” Janice Cates, Director of Special Events at the Mayor’s Office, said.

Santa will be on hand to officially light up the tree following the Lots of Lights parade during the annual Light Up Louisville celebration on Nov. 25.
