Nelson County Police Deputy helps couple deliver baby

Deputies at the Nelson County Sheriff's Office helped the expecting mother give birth before she could make it to the hospital.

NELSON COUNTY, Ky. — According to the Nelson County Sheriff's Office, a deputy helped a couple deliver a newborn baby.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, the Nelson Co. Dispatch Center received a
call from a man stating his wife was in active labor in a parking lot on Colonel Cox Rd. in Bardstown. Three deputies headed to the location along with Nelson Co. EMS.

On the way to the location, Deputy R. Riley contacted his sister, who is a BSN RN with CHI St. Joseph Health-Flaget Hospital’s Birth Center. Updates provided to those in route indicated the baby would arrive before the parents would be able to make it to the hospital.

Upon arrival, the mother was in active delivery of the baby. Riley assisted the mother as his sister remained on the phone to walk him through the process.

The baby boy was safely delivered at 2:37 a.m. EMS transported the mother and child to the hospital where they are doing well.
