Louisville artist creates Breonna Taylor mural projected onto Metro Hall

Jaylin Stewart brought her portrait to Taylor's family on what would have been her 27th birthday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On what would have been her 27th birthday, a portrait of Breonna Taylor was projected onto Louisville Metro Hall.

Artist Jaylin Stewart is known for honoring victims of violence by creating portraits and humanizing the topic. In less than 24 hours, Stewart and local advocates came together to take her vision a step farther, shining her portrait of Taylor on Metro Hall just after 9 p.m. Friday.

"I just want to make sure that we see her face just as much as we hear her name," Stewart said. "So the message that I'm really sending tonight is let's continue to celebrate her, let's continue to fight for her justice."

Stewart took her original portrait to Taylor's family Friday morning, saying it was phenomenal to see them in such good spirits on a day dedicated to celebrating her.

The projection will be up at Metro Hall for a portion of the rest of the weekend. Stewart said she encourages everyone to get out, get a glimpse and take a moment to both remember her face and say her name.
