Where to indulge in Louisville for National Doughnut Day

June 7 is National Doughnut Day and, while you could always go with a national chain, Louisville has plenty of unique options to satisfy your sweet tooth.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The doughnut may be the most-beloved breakfast treat of all time. June 7 is National Doughnut Day and it falls on a Friday, so why not celebrate the weekend with something sweet?

National chains like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ have their own doughnut deals, but Louisville is known for its food scene and these local doughnuts go far beyond your standard glazed and powdered-sugar varieties. Here are some local places where you can get your doughnut fix on Friday, and where you can dig into your doughnut for less.

North Lime Coffee & Donuts in Old Louisville is giving away 10 “golden tickets” on Friday, which will get you a free dozen on your next visit. The shop will also sell their “Sprinkle Explosion” doughnut for 75 cents during the day. For something to wash down that doughnut, try their “Celebration Cake Latte”.

Hi-Five Doughnuts is partnering with Do502 for a National Doughnut Day Pop-Up from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. at their location on E. Main Street. When you buy the special Do502 doughnut, you get one free! You can also enter a raffle to win one free Hi-Five Doughnut a month for the next year (which means something like this Bourbon Caramel Popcorn doughnut!).

Louisville has a new doughnut shop opening on Friday, too! A family from North Carolina moved to Kentucky in April to pursue their dream of opening a doughnut shop, and they have achieved that dream with King Donuts on New Cut Road. The store posted on Thursday saying that, despite the “really short notice”, they would host a grand opening on Friday. To celebrate the holiday and store opening, King Donuts will add a dozen donut holes to every box of donuts for free. (Note: This store has no affiliation to the King Donuts stores on Lyndon Lane or Preston Highway).

They may not be offering discounts, but there are some other tried-and-true Louisville favorites when it comes to doughnuts. Try out Nord’s Bakery, Plehn’s Bakery, or Sugar and Spice for something truly local and always delicious.
