LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Humane Society is getting thousands of dollars to help cats in need. The Petco Foundation presented KHS with a $50,000 check.

The KHS will use the funding to hire a cat coordinator, purchase cat kennels, provide veterinary care and increase the number of cats it saves through rural shelter transports.

Cats are considered the species most at-risk of being put down in many rural county shelters due to overpopulation and lack of local adopters, according to KHS.The money will also help save cats by taking them from rural shelters and bringing them to KHS for adoption.
