Blessing of the Beer means the St. Patrick's Day Parade is just around the corner

"Everybody wants to be Irish for that little bit of time," Program Coordinator John O'Dwyer said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Preparations are underway for Louisville's St. Patrick's Day Parade happening this Saturday.

At the Goodwood Taproom on East Main Street, people gathered with their Irish bagpipes, stew and lots of fresh beer for the Blessing of the Beer.

"We want to bless these special kegs that allowed us all to come together and share in what is really a unique experience," one member toasted.

After the blessing, they made a quick trip to O'Shea's Taproom where they tapped the St. Patrick's Day beer.

"Everybody wants to be Irish for that little bit of time," Program Coordinator John O'Dwyer said. "It's probably one of the most beautiful times of the year that I get to see people interact."

The parade route is one mile long and they expect thousands of people for the big anniversary.

WHAS11 will be one of the 150 groups participating in the parade!

The man who started it all, former-Mayor Harvey Sloane, will be leading the parade with Mayor Craig Greenberg.
