LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Katherine Switzer was the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon in the late 1960s, when only men were encouraged to run. She finished, despite attempts to physically block her from the course. Katherine Switzer has returned to run the Boston Marathon many times since then and now for the first time, she'll be running in the second leg of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Marathon Relay. Katherine stopped by Great Day Live to talk more about it. Registration for the race is online at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com. The mini and marathon start at 7:30 AM on April 27, 2019 on Main Street, near Slugger Field. The race will finish at Preston and Witherspoon streets.
